In early April of 2023, Baltimore Playhouse began our 10th year of Business. It was the first week in April of 2014 that I signed the lease for our current space and we officially opened in October 2014. The original Play House Studios & Gallery had a devastating fire in January 2013. Ultimately, over the following year, I saw there was a massive community need that I wanted to do something about. I never had lifelong dreams of becoming a ‘dungeon owner’. Once I committed to trying to address this need, my goals were simply to establish a community playspace, help to build it up, nurture and grow it into something very special. I had long since met those goals when Covid hit. I was determined to survive the Pandemic until things began to return to a certain level of ‘normality’ for our host groups and attendees. We are now reaching that goal.
With that, I felt that it was now time to ‘Pass the Torch’ to the next person to lead Baltimore Playhouse for many years to come! I am very honored to announce that we are passing the torch to @JaySpade and their partner @YayKPM. After extensive consideration and deliberation, I think Jay and their partner Yay are the perfect choice. Jay was hosting events at various venues prior to my signing my Lease in 2014. They have been an attendee, a volunteer, a party host and a Manager at BPH for several years. They are over a decade younger than myself and will bring new enthusiasm, energy, ideas and resources to the Playhouse.
I am absolutely thrilled to announce that Jay and his partner Yay will officially take over the reins of ‘ownership’ for Baltimore Playhouse on May 1, 2023. Both slave Jenna and myself will be taking a huge step back from the day to day. We will continue to help out in a limited capacity. We are committed for this transition to be extremely smooth and seamless. You might see some changes and tweaks that are new in the coming weeks and months but, in many respects, there would be very little noticeable change. We want to get Jay and Yay introduced to all of our event hosts that we work with at the space. We are willing to continue to help out as needed to ensure this transition is as flawless as we can all make it.
Any of our Contributorships, either Annual or Lifetime, will see no change. Everything will be honored moving forward. All of our scheduled events will also remain in place. We have a Lewbari Weekend coming up the first week of May and the LSC Uprise hybrid conference in October. No changes to our Banned list either … sorry, not sorry.
I personally want to take a minute and thank my wife and partner, slave Jenna, for all that she does. She excels at many things that I do not. Together we make a great team! The evolution of Baltimore Playhouse from 2014 to 2023 does not happen without all of her input and hard work. Most of it is completely behind the scenes and not witnessed by the masses. You are the best partner one could ever hope for and as I have always said, I am a very lucky Master!
Thank you to everyone who has volunteered and helped Baltimore Playhouse run smoothly since we first opened. And Thank you to all of the attendees who call Baltimore Playhouse home! It is your support that helps keep us in business throughout the years!!! We don’t exist without all of YOU!!!
So, please help us welcome Jay and Yay as the new owners of the Playhouse beginning on May 1.
Thank you,
Master Robert
