We’re So Close!
August 20, 2014Are You Ready?
October 24, 2014Hello Everyone,
Baltimore Playhouse is finally ready to open our doors and to “Make Play Happen” once again!!! We have passed all of our inspections, we had our occupancy set, approved and paid for, and we are now 100% Legal.
When I began this undertaking, admittedly, I was a little naive as to the scope of the work that was needed…or the expense…or the delays, etc. One thing that I did know was that if I began this undertaking, I was going to see it through and that it needed to be done the right way at every turn. Nothing less than a 100% legal playspace was acceptable to me.
We have had every possible issue and obstacle thrown into our path that needed to be overcome. From serious poison ivy out back, to losing power for 8 days with the Landlord away on vacation, to a burst pipe that showered half of the space, to delays with various companies and with various City offices, etc.
323 of you filled out our Survey Monkey questionnaire telling us what you wanted to see in a Community playspace. Over 200 Community members came out in person to our various workdays…volunteering your time, your energy, your support, your tools and equipment, etc.
When things got very real, very quickly as my personal budget to do this was running dry and I was hit with “sticker shock”…you came through and helped us with some much needed funds by supporting our GoFundMe campaign. Between the electric company hired to do exit signage and indoor/outdoor emergency lighting and the fire safety company with their complete safety install and 24/7 monitoring system ran a combined total of $17,000.
It was YOUR efforts that made this all possible. It was YOUR efforts that helped us reach the finish line. Trust me when I tell you that it was YOUR efforts and support that gave me hope to see this through when this Herculean task seemed impossible to complete.
And I want to “Thank You” for your help and support by having the first Opening Night on Friday 10/10, to be one that was ‘invitation only’ through our GoFundMe campaign. YOU helped us when it was needed most and it will be all of YOU that will have the opportunity to be the first to “Make Play Happen” once again!!!
More detailed posts will follow in the coming days. However, if you want to be a part of our entire Opening Weekend, you still have an opportunity to do so. The GoFundMe page will be made available until Midnight on Thursday, October 9.
We have many surprises in store including a catered Nosh.
I thank each and every one of you!!!
